Prepping for the Second Visit
It’s been 12 weeks since our first visit to SoCal but we have heard back from them. Now, our second appointment is booked for February 2020. This is the big appointment where Musa will: get the 24 hour patch placement, we will get our treatment plan and Musa will challenge and introduce foods. We had bloodwork done mid October 2019 (click here to read more about it) and it took 12 weeks to get the email to book our second appointment, and then we had to wait another 6 weeks for the first available appointment. I was expecting to get our plan before we booked the second appointment, but the process has changed. We won’t be getting the plan until the second day of our appointments when the patch is removed. I was a bit disappointed but we are committed to this, so waiting a couple more weeks is fine.
First things first, though, in preparation for our second appointment we have a list of recommended foods Musa will need to eat 3-5 times a week. (This list will vary depending on each individual.) These foods include-
- 1 Apple
- 1 Pear
- 1 Stone Fruit (Peach, Apricot, Cherry, Nectarine, Plums)
- 1 oz Beef
- 1 oz Chicken
- 1oz Oats
- 1/4 tsp Coconut Flour
- 1 tsp Sunflower Seed
- 1/2 tsp Flax Seed
The fruits, oats and meats have been the easiest for us since we consume roughly that much per week as it is. We did have a bit of trouble finding stone fruits during the winter in Chicago but were successful after stopping at a few stores. For the coconut flour and seeds, I add them to Musa’s oatmeal or pancake mix. I grind the seeds with a small hand grinder so Musa doesn’t even notice. He doesn’t like the taste of sunflower seeds whole at all.
We check off what Musa eats everyday so we can stay organized and keep on track. From all the TIP accounts I have been following I know how important it is to be organized and this a great way to start. I created a simple table in Google docs, nothing fancy but easy enough to edit as needed. I’m positive we will be adding foods after the second appointment.
Now we are getting ready to head out to our second appointment which will be 4 appointments across 3 days. I was able to get a list of foods we will be introducing and challenging at the appointments which are pine nuts, chestnuts, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, soy, buckwheat and duck egg yolk. Judging by this, we are going to stat tackling egg for sure. I’ll update you all though once we know for sure. #FoodFreedom here we come!
