Fourth Appointment

Appointment #4 is in the books and we are five weeks into our next dosing cycle. It’s crazy to think that these dosing cycles are 10 weeks long but we are already halfway through. I’m getting ahead of myself though…

Nervous but ready to go!

Travel

Our trip started off with me forgetting Musa’s Kindle Fire at TSA and not realizing it until we were getting ready for take off. To make things worse, Musa complained of a stomach ache 30 minutes into the flight. He didn’t eat much during the flight when he normally eats a ton of snacks and lunch during a typical flight. During landing there was a lot of turbulence from the 70mph winds due to the fires near SoCal and Musa ended up throwing up from all the motion. It was really out of the ordinary for him and that made me anxious. We have flown a dozen times before even starting treatment and that has never happened. I couldn’t really pinpoint anything else that it could have been so was hoping it was a one off thing. Thankfully, he was okay on the flight back. There was some turbulence but he slept most of the way which helped.

Appointments

We get the earliest flight out of Chicago and latest appointment at SCFAI for the same day in case of any delays. So, once we landed we headed to the hotel and then appointment. I did let the doctor know about Musa’s motion sickness and they didn’t think it was too concerning and wanted to go ahead with the challenges still. Musa powered through the denatured camel milk and almond and successfully passed. Yay! Both foods are now capped and in maintenance for him.

The next morning we introduced pistachio and denatured mare milk. Musa had a bit of a stomach upset after the denatured mare milk. We stayed an extra 15 minutes during which Musa used the bathroom. He felt better after that and we were able to leave. We hung around the parking lot for another 30 minutes before heading to Downtown Disney for a bit of fun before our flight back.

Our favorite part of the trip!

Dosing Cycle

Our next dosing cycle for denatured mare milk is 8 weeks and 10 weeks for pistachio. Denaturing mare milk is the same process as denaturing camel milk so I did a batch and froze it in small quantities in breast milk storage bags. The treatment doses are small and I only keep mare milk in the fridge for 4 days before switching it out. So freezing ensures less waste. For pistachios we have gummies for 8 weeks before I need to ground them. Unfortunately, Musa isn’t too big on gummies so when they get larger he doses with marshmallows, pinches his nose and drinks a sip of water after each bite. It works for now!
